I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or awake. Everything was green, and rays of sunlight sparkled gold blue through the water. Water? I was underwater? Wasn’t everything too clear for me to be under water? I felt a tug on my hand, and turned. There you were, your hair moving gently in the current. You wound your warm fingers through mine and pulled me toward you. I closed my eyes, and behind them everything was faintly gold. There, in the ocean, you kissed me. A perfect, movie theatre kind of kiss, gentle and yet odd, because you were cool and warm all at the same time. Oh, this was strange.. We broke apart and rose to the surface, gasping for air. I took your hand again, and tread water. Wait.. tread water? My feet weren’t moving, and yet I wasn’t sinking. I looked down, and understood. I had a tail, and yet, this did not surprise me. I simply observed this beautiful new thing. It shimmered gold and blue under the water, long and graceful. When had anything about me been long or graceful? I looked to you, confused. You looked back, brown eyes sad. I looked at your legs. Legs.. then I knew. I understood, even here, when you loved me, there was still a gap between us. An impossibility. I stared hard at you for a second. Then, with a flick of my tail, was gone.
